"The largest difference between the two interfaces is that GNOME 3 uses a minimum of two screens: one in which open windows displays, and the overview in which the system is configured and applications chosen and run.
"By contrast, Unity remains oriented towards a single screen unless you use virtual workspaces. For light usage, this setup is less confusing and tiresome; in GNOME 3, it can sometimes seems like you are changing screens every few seconds. However, on a netbook in particular, Unity opens many windows full-screen -- or near enough to make no difference. If you work with more than a couple of windows open at the same time, the effect is not much different than working in GNOME 3.
"Where most people are likely to notice the differences between GNOME 3 and Unity is in their implementation of similar features."

"The concept is not unlike MeeGo which is a collaboration between Nokia and Intel. However, since Nokia announced it will use Windows Phone as its primary smartphone platform, its future role within the MeeGo project is uncertain. Intel will continue to develop MeeGo.
"MeeGo will be an initial target platform for the Contour interface.
"KDE developer Marco Martin wrote on his blog that Plasma Active isn?t a single project, but more an umbrella of many components, including Contour."

"But what I find frustrating about the entire process is that nearly all of the Linux distributions targeting new users don't bother to explain the challenges that exist with using ?made for Windows? hardware combined with their distro. Sure, for you and I it's a snap. For a new Linux user, however, this is not clearly spelled out. Often, selecting video or wireless chipsets can provide hours of unneeded frustration.
"Distro developers have done their jobs well. So have those who are working to promote their distributions throughout the various channels, for the most part. But where I see the ball being dropped early on is with clear guidelines as to what new users should expect.
"I'm sorry, but I think in 2011 we have outgrown statements like 'it's not Windows' and 'visit the forums for help.' Providing a simple notice on the distribution websites indicating that self-installation is to be an 'as is' type of deal, would provide some much needed reprieve for newbies everywhere."

"Eclipse: Android code is basically coding in Java. Eclipse is an IDE that is most known for its Java friendly environment and is probably among the first tools one needs to download as they start out developing on the Android platform. Google, the creator of the Android platform, have done an excellent job getting the Android SDK to run with Eclipse. The two are almost synonymous to developers. Eclipse gives developers an easy time in getting their code in sync with facilities such as debugging, the DDMS perspective, and a host of other important tools available in the Android SDK kit. On the surface level, Eclipse makes Android development a whole lot better - the object oriented code is easy to write and manage, plus you can get a design view of layout files such as XML based files used in Android code."

It is a powerful management tool that can edit the metadata for your books and convert books into a useable format for the Kindle, Nook and iPad among others. With this tool, I can make a properly formatted rich-text version of the original document, edit the metadata to include details such as author, publisher, cover and tags, and then covert that file to .mobi, .epub, and .pdf. With those three formats, you cover nearly every e-reader on the market."

First it put a tax on every computer sold, removing people?s ability to avoid this tax even if they want nothing to do with Microsoft. Now they want to force people to pay Microsoft a tax no matter which phone they buy. That?s right, and if it?s not Microsoft pulling those strings, then it?s the two co-founders of the company and their former CTO, who with funding from a Microsoft co-founder created the world?s largest patent troll, Intellectual Ventures. Watch how patent lawyer types try to white-wash the patent trolls? role in industry and cover the fact that Gates and his buddy Myhrvold are extorting RIM for its phones, just like HTC and Samsung (for Linux), allegedly after Myhrvold did his blackmail routines. Here is how patent lawyers put it (subscription required)."

Flash-10.2 found that Crashtastic
If you experienced a lot of crashes, have if you try accessing recently on pages with Flash content, and you have therefore questions, take solace in the fact that it is not specifically a Linux problem. Windows users have had the same problem, and it with the latest version of the Flash plugin. Fortunately, it's easy enough to get around.
At the time of writing, the Adobe Forum is full of reports of the crash, and it seems to have a Windows and Linux versions of the plugin. The situation is somewhat annoying, because many of us encouraging established a pop up prompt us get, to make an updated version of the plugin which has proven to be unreliable.
The reports on the Adobe Forum show that we one more, can as usually the player only until a message appears that crashed. In this case should reload of the page all be that necessary is working to make things again. Outside of the Linux land the faulty plugin regularly down in the browser, and in some cases brings apparently, the entire machine. Occasionally, the Linux version can cause that browser crashes, but I was unable to bring any reports of it to search the whole system down. It may seem surprising that a mere browser plugin could result in instability of the system, but apparently cause, which fixes the new version of hardware acceleration in a different way. It is always a risk for this kind of thing happens, if a high level program to interact directly with a low level driver. There were reports of the problem which both NVIDIA and ATI Chipset equipped machines.
I was able in my own experiments, provoke by opening several tabs the crashing behavior containing the flash content. You could limit the effect by running flash blocking plugin like such as FlashBlock in combination with the excellent FlashVideoReplacer.
The easiest solution is probably the back to version 10.01 now be restored. If you have installed it manually, need to locate an older version of the installation file. If this is not the case, usually you can your choice of package manager to restore a previous version. The synaptic is the "force version..." option in the "package" pull-down menu option.
Happy flashing, people.

On my way to the DrupalCon!
As you have heard perhaps, Drupal's biggest annual event starts next week. That is this year's North American DrupalCon an expected crowd of over 3000 participants draw, and offer something for a variety of Drupalers and future Drupalers, as well as Web developers and designers in General. I am very excited about next week event, like me, believe it will offer some fantastic programming options, as well as a fitting venue Drupal's tenth year to celebrate.
As Drupal continues to grow adoption and community participation, the DrupalCon event is necessarily grown with the project and the community. Events that must of this area not only the core Drupal developer, meet, many of which are involved in for many years, but provide options for the new Drupal, the evaluating Drupal, as well as the non-developers of business audience. It is a, but after a conversation with one of the organizers of DrupalCon Chicago, George Demet, founder and CEO of Palantir, I have some pretty high expectations.
This year's event include the more peripheral events, which should provide a wider audience than previous DrupalCons. For the first time the Expo part of the event have a full day stage, and have a dedicated, separate space. It will be interesting to see how this will affect the general feeling of the event, but I do get to emphasis the impression that it is catering for a business-oriented target group used a structured conferences and can measure. There is a dedicated community trace, which should help keep at least some of the intimate feel of a community oriented event.
With the recent release of Drupal 7 and some recent interesting moves within the Drupal community, it is certainly a fun time to get together with Drupalers. It is also a great time to get involved with the Drupal community if you are looking for lamp developers work. The demand for Drupal get to accelerate talent continue to grow, and with tons of content aimed at developers with Drupal 7, I think that the DrupalCon may be a pretty great place to be if you have made of the harsh economic times, we all are likely still experience.
I am particularly interested in more about what the great minds of the installation functions are technology up to listen. The recent acquisition of open atrium, the Drupal-based intranet tool has legitimized more Drupal as a product platform, and could be yet another way for increased Drupal adoption in enterprise environments as. I am a bit of a fan of you, so I'm curious to see what you have on the horizon.
There are to much look forward to the next week, and if you play your cards right, get possibly an autographed copy of this month Linux Journal of Webchick itself! There is even a Lullabot sponsored fashion show. Seriously, what is not happy about the DrupalCon Chicago? I'm excited, and I hope that many of you see it!

"Google's Android mobile operating system's usage of the Linux kernel may violate open source licensing with a misappropriation of Linux code that could bring about the 'collapse of the Android ecosystem,' some intellectual property experts are charging.
"Google is already under fire from Oracle, which has gone to court claiming that Android violates Java patents and copyrights.
"The Linux issue is a separate one and no lawsuits have apparently been filed. But a few intellectual property watchers have written analyses that call into question Android's use of Linux code licensed under GPL version 2."
